Managing the Navigation Menu / Adding New Pages
- Log in to the content management page.
- On the dashboard, click the link towards the top right of the page labeled “Manage the Menu Bar and Associated Pages”.
- Here you’ll find two options – ‘Manage Website Menu Bar’, and ‘Manage Standalone Pages’. Standalone pages are just like any other page you can add to your site, except that links to these pages do not appear in your site’s navigation menu. You provide the public with access to these pages by including links to them within your site content.
Manage Website Menu Bar
This is the choice you’ll make if you intend to have access to your new page appear within the site’s public navigational menu / dropdowns. It’s also the choice you’ll make if you want to change the name of or delete an existing nav menu button.
Begin by clicking the “Edit Menu Bar” button
To work with top level menu buttons…
- The next page will display the main, top-level tabs that currently appear within your site’s navigation menu (down the far left column).
- To change the name of one of your existing top level menu buttons, click the “Edit” button to the immediate right of the existing name.
- To change the horizontal order of an existing main menu tab, click either the up or down arrows
- To delete a top level menu item, click its associated red “Delete” button. NOTE: If the top-level menu item has dropdown tabs associated with it, you will not be able to immediately delete it. You must first click the “Add or Edit Pages” button at the far right, and either delete or move any pages that are currently assigned to this top-level item. Once that is done, you can return and delete main, top-level button.
- To add a new top-level navigation item, click the blue “Add New Top Level Menu Item” button at the bottom left of the screen (you may need to scroll down to see this button).
To work with dropdown menu buttons…
- To add or edit the names of pages that appear within the dropdowns for each main nav section, click the “Add or Edit Pages” button to the far right of the desired main section
- Next you’ll see a list of all of the dropdown menu items / pages that currently exist within this section’s dropdown list.
- Click the blue “Add New Page” button at the bottom left of the page
- Type in a name for the new page. NOTE: Whatever name you type in here will be the way that the page appears in the site’s navigation menu
- From the dropdown list, choose the type of page. NOTE: Page types are described in a section below.
Manage Standalone Pages
This is the choice you’ll make if you want to add or change the name of a page that is not listed in the site’s navigation menu.
- Log into the content management page
- On the dashboard, click the link towards the top right of the page labeled “Manage the Menu Bar and Associated Pages”.
- Click the light green “Edit Standalone Pages” button
- If you’ve already created some standalone pages, they will be listed here, and you can change their name or delete the page and all of its content. Note: Although this page shows the option to Change Order, this doesn’t really apply, as these standalone pages are not listed in the site’s navigation menu.
- To add a brand new standalone page, click the blue “Add New Page” button at the bottom left of the page (you may need to scroll down to see it)
- Type in name for the new page. Note that since this is a standalone page, the name won’t appear anywhere within the site’s menu. It will, however, be what you can use to identify the page content if / when you return to edit the page content or to delete the page entirely.
- From the dropdown list, choose the type of page. NOTE: Page types are described in a section below.
- Once a standalone page has been added, you can return to the main dashboard, and then manage the content on that page as you would any other page on your site.
